Attendance

Choosing the best care for your child is a significant step for both the child and the family. Planning and selecting the type of care for your child can start long before birth.
In California, you have various options, such as state preschool, Head Start (known as Child Start, Inc. in Napa County), private preschool and Transitional Kindergarten (K). Some programs can start as early as infancy, so it's understandable that many emotions and questions can arise during these important phases of life. The Napa County Child Care and Development Planning Council (LPC) has created this transition guide to help you understand your early education options, while also preparing for the kindergarten journey! There are many options for your child and family. It's important to pick the one that works best for you.

The preschool and/or TK year is designed to get young children ready for the structuredenvironment of kindergarten, while still providing plenty of opportunities for play-based learning, social skill development and adjustment to a school-day routine. Kindergarten marks a foundational year in your child's elementary education. They will build relationships with peers and educators, while further developing essential skills, like literacy, early math, social-emotional understanding and fine motor skills. Napa County is a beautiful community and environment in which young learners can grow, explore and learn.

Consistent school attendance is vital for young children for several reasons. It exposes them to group settings, helping them learn social and academic behaviors, such as taking turns, collaborating, sharing and following classroom expectations. Regular attendance also sets the stage for academic success in the following elementary grades and beyond. Please prioritize your child's attendance for their overall well-being and success - attendance matters!
